Certains vont bondir à l'idée de "rafraîchir" le black metal dépressif mais c'est bien à cette tâche que se consacre Funeral Fornication dans Solitude and Suicide. Les mélodies lancinantes tournent en boucle ("Channeling Volatile Energy"), Vultyrous hurle son désespoir à s'en déchirer les cordes vocales et la production est distante. Mais c'est surtout par les synthés qu'il surprend car ils sont très dramatiques voire théâtraux, ils nous attirent dans la tourmente comme le chant des sirènes...

La vie n'a aucune substance et la production plus distante le confirme. Le DSBM s'empare de textures sonores blues, mettant en relief une dépression urbaine. On salue à juste titre les albums qui accomplissent un tour de force : le premier album éponyme de Subterranean Disposition en fait cinq — un sur chaque piste, ni plus ni moins. En plus d'un death/doom metal très engageant qui plaira aux amateurs de My Dying Bride, il se démarque par ses excursions avant-gardistes qui s'intègrent parfaitement, tantôt folk, tantôt bruitistes voire jazz ! Et on peut même en rajouter un sixième : cet album est l'œuvre d'une seule personne ! C'est très ambitieux !
